W roku 2012 w Europie i Azji Centralnej zgłoszono ponad 131 tysięcy nowych przypadków. To o 8% więcej, niż w roku poprzednim. Na terenie samej Unii Europejskiej i Europejskiego Obszaru Gospodarczego zgłasza się 29 tysięcy nowych zarażeń - o 1% więcej, niż w roku 2011.
