Hiszpańska policja od 2007 roku wie, że DNA znalezione na ofiarach nie należy do niego, a do Brytyjczyka, który przebywa w więzieniu w Londynie za gwałt i zabójstwo. Minęło jednak kolejnych 8 lat nim brytyjskie władze przeprowadziły nowe badania DNA, potwierdzające niewinność Van der Dussena. Wszystko to sprawiło, że hiszpański Sąd Najwyższy nie był w stanie dokonać rewizji wyroku, a Romano Van der Dussen wciąż jest w więzieniu na Majorce.
