Departament Imigracji IND ogłosił, że liczba wniosków o azyl w Holandii, od 2015 do 2016 roku, spadła o 46 procent. Spadek ten jest w dużej mierze konsekwencją porozumienia UE-Turcja, zawartego w marcu 2016 roku, które drastycznie zmniejszyło napływ syryjskich azylantów. Uchodźcy w Holandii pochodzą przede wszystkim z Syrii (34 procent), Erytrei (9 procent) i Albanii (5 procent). W ubiegłym roku zgłoszono 18.000 nowych wniosków, z czego 12.000 z nich dotyczyło łączenia rodzin. Dane holenderskie zgadzają się ze statystykami dot. Niemiec, gdzie liczba aplikacji zmniejszyła się o jedną trzecią.
