Niższa izba francuskiego parlamentu przyjęła 17 marca ustawę zezwalającą pacjentom zbliżającym się końca swojego życia na zaprzestanie leczenia i poproszenie o głębokie uspokojenie aż do śmierci. Za projektem ustawy głosowało 436 parlamentarzystów, przeciw - 24. W maju lub czerwcu ustawa zostanie prawdopodobnie przegłosowana w wyższej izbie parlamentu. Przywódcy religijni, niektórzy profesorowie medycyny i zwolennicy pro-life twierdzą, że nowa ustawa jest zamaskowaną formą eutanazji.
