The opposition to dual citizenship remains an important issue for the Dutch government. It is not going to ease its rules. "If the bond with another country becomes stronger than the bond with the Netherlands, then there will come a time when Dutch citizenship expires," Prime Minister Mark Rutte informed an interest group for Dutch expats who are applying for British citizenship. They are doing so to be able to stay in the UK after Brexit. Dutchmen who apply for a British passport could lose their Dutch citizenship.
