Former Romanian President Ion Iliescu and 13 others have been ordered to stand trial for crimes against humanity related to a 1990 protest in Bucharest. Iliescu called in 10,000 mines armed with clubs to help put down a demonstration in the capital in June 1990. Four people were killed after the miners were called in, and 1,380 others were injured and 1,250 arrests were made, according to official statistics. Others who will face trial include a former prime minister and the national intelligence chief at the time.
