Between 13 and 26 October, police forces of the member states of the EU are being ordered to conduct massive migration control operations both within the Schengen Area and at its borders. The goals of the operation are to weaken the "capacity of organized crime groups to facilitate illegal immigration" and to "collect information […] regarding the main routes followed by migrants." This operation, which might very likely involve massive and discriminatory police stops targeting ethnic minorities, has not even been explained by the Council of the EU: it was leaked by the NGO State Watch.
