Secondo un rapporto commissionato dalla Belgian Privacy Commission, il regolamento di Facebook sulla privacy viola la legge europea, nonostante i recenti aggiornamenti. Il report, realizzato dal Center of Interdisciplinary Law and ICT dell'Università di Lovanio, ha appurato che le modifiche di gennaio al regolamento hanno soltanto ampliato le vecchie prassi e continuano a violare la normativa europea sulla tutela dei consumatori. Secondo il rapporto, Facebook "non offre adeguati meccanismi di controllo" per quanto riguarda l'utilizzo di contenuti generati dagli utenti a scopo commerciale.
