Over 20.000 demonstrators went into the streets on Bucharest on Sunday to protest the ruling Social Democrat government's plan to make changes to Romania's justice system. Critics of the government fear the proposed changes - which have also been questioned by the European Commission - will put the justice system under political control, undermining Romania’s recent anti-corruption efforts. Prosecutors in Romania have investigated hundreds of public officials, including former prime ministers, in an anti-corruption drive over the past decade.
