Spain's new Citizen Security Law came into force on July 1 amid strong opposition from international institutions and NGOs. It has already caused the application of arbitrary sanctions, as in the case of a young man who published a comment in Facebook describing the local police attitude in a municipality in Tenerife as "ducking out," or the case of a woman who published a photo of a police car unlawfully parked in a place reserved for disabled people. The way the law is being applied proves its incompatibility with the respect of civil rights and liberties.
