At the beginning of August, a court in Amsterdam and the Dutch Data Protection Authority, a privacy watchdog, clarified that municipalities cannot oblige sex workers to provide sensitive personal information when they register. This also applies if municipalities ask personal questions during registration conversations, designed to protect a vulnerable group from exploitation. Sex workers have the right to privacy and protection. The prohibition puts municipalities in a difficult position. Perhaps the most important aim of the policy is to fight exploitation.
