Regional and district courts' jurors are currently being selected for a five-year term in Bulgaria. There is abundant evidence that each party gets a quota in the jury pool in accordance with the number of representatives it has in the local government. The majority of the judges strongly disagree with this method of selecting juries, says Romeo Simeonov, a district court judge: "It should not be possible for people appointed by a party to take part in the decision-making process of a depoliticized system. Political control is absolutely unacceptable in any judicial activity."
