The Amsterdam District Court has refused to extradite a Polish national – who is said to be involved in drugs – to Poland due to "major doubts about the independence of the Polish judiciary". Announcing their verdict on 4 October, the judges said that the individual's ‘constitutional right to a fair trial’ in Poland could be in danger. They stated particular concern about potential ‘political involvement’ in criminal cases. Polish authorities now have four weeks to answer a string of questions about their operations. If their answers are unsatisfactory, the suspect will not be extradited.
