EU transparency has achieved an important victory at the European Court of Justice (ECJ). The court ruled on 22 March that the European Parliament
(EP) must in principle grant access, on specific request, to documents relating
to ongoing trilogues, which are informal negotiations between the EP, European Council and the European Commission. The work of the trilogues
constitutes a decisive stage in the legislative process. The ECJ's ruling allows increased
transparency throughout the EU decision-making process.
