Italy's interior minister on Monday renewed his efforts to handicap charity ships that rescue migrants off Libya and bring them to the safety of Italy. Matteo Salvini wrote on Twitter, "The ports have been, and remain, CLOSED" and his office released an eight-page directive on the laws regarding rescue operations. Salvini has been the dominant force in Italian politics against migration, making it a key political issue to fire up his supporters at the same time as innocent men, women and children drown in the Mediterranean.
