Sap, the Italian trade union of penitentiary police, has publicly demonstrated at the Milan Expo against the introduction of the crime of torture in the Italian penal code. "The crime of torture would hinder the work of police," said Sap's spokesperson. The Italian Parliament has tried several times in the past to introduce the crime of torture into the penal code, as requested by the United Nations, but law enforcement bodies have always presented strong and successful opposition.
