The Italian judicial psychiatric hospitals (OPGs) should have all closed down months ago. They didn't, though, and this is why over a hundred people detained in OPGs have filed petitions to denounce their illegitimate detention - that is, kidnapping - by the Italian state. In fact, the association L'Altro Diritto has already collected as many as 109 complaints from detainees of the hospitals for the criminally insane. This means that almost half of the total OPG population - currently amounting to 226 persons - are lamenting the violation of their constitutional rights. They cannot be ignored.
