And a recent decree passed under this enabling law suspends the application of certain rights guaranteed to Hungarians by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The government alleges that these steps are part of measures against COVID-19. In reality, they are the latest in a broader effort going back a decade to systematically dismantle the rule of law and fundamental rights.
