Facebook has admitted that it can't offer any assurance that social media is on the whole good for democracy. However, Facebook said it's doing what it can to stop people from using its service to influence voters. Facebook is under pressure after accusations that Russia tried to influence votes in the US, Britain and France. Samidh Chakrabarti, a Facebook product manager, wrote that they should have done better and will make up for lost time by disabling suspect accounts, making election ads visible beyond the targeted audience and confirming the identities of people who run election ads.
