Google is likely to win a European Court of Justice case about the right to be forgotten. In an initial opinion, the court's advocate general, Maciej Szpunar, stated that the right to be forgotten in EU internet searches should not be enforceable globally. The ECJ usually endorses initial opinions. The opinion was welcomed by Google, which had locked horns with France’s privacy watchdog after being fined for failing to delist sensitive information outside the EU. France’s CNIL data authority restated its view that the right to privacy should apply regardless of geographical origin location.
