The European ombudsman has launched “fast-track” access to public documents driven by demand from individuals or organisations that urgently need to view certain documents. The fast-track procedure for handling these "access to documents" complaints can be used if one has gone through the procedure for requesting access to a document and the EU institution has confirmed its decision to refuse it. The ombudsman promises to take a decision about complaints within five working days with regards to whether she can open an inquiry into the complaint and then make a final decision in 40 days.
