The formation process is taking too long, says Senate Chairman Ankie Broekers-Knol. The elections for parliament were on 15 March, but the VVD (Liberals), CDA (Christian Democrats), D66 (Liberal Democrats) and Christenunie (Christian Conservatives) have been negotiating since the end of June on the formation of a new cabinet. Broekers-Knol finds it 'worrisome' if this would result in a detailed formation agreement: 'Democracy flourishes under a good debate. If that debate is already concluded with a two-hundred-page document, it will - and this is my personal opinion - not advance democracy.'
