A Dutch reporter has been detained in Turkey on terrorism charges, calling attention to the ongoing issue of media freedom there. Journalist Frederike Geerdink, a frequent Twitter user, was detained for promoting "propaganda for a terrorist organization." Two other journalists were arrested last week for tweets critical of the government, and last month a news editor was charged with belonging to a terrorist organization. Ms. Geerdink’s arrest came on the same day that Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, declared that journalists there have greater freedom than in any European country.
