Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks urges Ireland to be more respectful of women's rights.

Ireland is being urged by the Council of Europe to make progress towards abortion laws that are "more respectful of the human rights of women." Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks recommended that the country decriminalize abortion "within reasonable gestational limits" and that the minimum should be "abortion performed to preserve the physical and mental health of women, or in cases of fatal foetal abnormality, rape or incest." His report, released Wednesday morning, comes after he visited Ireland last November to investigate the treatment of women, children and Travellers.
