Amsterdam wrote history when on September 5, 1987, it revealed a unique and impressive monument next to the Western Church 'to inspire gay men and women and to support them in their fight against denial, persecution and discrimination.' Now, after 30 years, it is the spot for the LGBTI community from both the Netherlands and abroad to lay flowers at one of triangles to commemorate loved ones, celebrate a marriage, meet friends before a party and organise protests.
