Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland will write to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán about new anti-migrant laws that took effect yesterday. Secretary Jagland said he was concerned the laws will "allow the government to declare a 'state of crisis' caused by mass immigration" and will ask the Prime Minister Orbán for the final text of all laws adopted in the context of the migrant crisis to see if they are compatible with EU law. Jagland also said he would seek assurances that Hungary would not violates its commitments under the European Convention on Human Rights.
