Lithuania announced an extension to the state of emergency along its borders with Belarus and Russia until 16th December 2022. Minister of Internal Affairs Agnė Bilotaitė said that such a measure is necessary to stop hybrid attacks from Belarus and Russia
A demonstration under the slogan "Czech Republic First!", which gathered around 70,000 people, called on the government to abandon its pro-Western agenda, withdraw from NATO and the EU, drop sanctions against Russia, and agree on gas prices.
Spain is proving to be the most difficult country to probe in the investigation of the use of spyware. In November 2022 Joanna Giménez and a photojournalist were arrested as they attempted to cover a protest by environmental activists.
Greek journal Documento revealed a new list of persons whose devices were wiretapped with the spyware tool called ‘Predator’. The soaring cost of living brought together tens of thousands of protesters to request higher wages.
On 17th February 2023, the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) renewed its call for action after Emilia Șercan, a Romanian journalist, faced a new smear campaign roughly one year after Șercan filed an initial police complaint.
