A inizio gennaio Privacy International, insieme a esperti giuristi e a 26 organizzazioni per i diritti umani e digitali tra cui la Coalizione Italiana Libertà e Diritti civili, membro di Liberties, ha presentato un amicus curiae alla Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti sul caso United States v. Microsoft Corp. Il documento evidenzia i tentativi del governo americano di indebolire il diritto alla privacy annullando le leggi sulla protezione dei dati in Irlanda e UE. Il governo USA ha provato a costringere Microsoft a consegnare email e altri dati privati, molti dei quali conservati in Irlanda.
