L'attivista per la privacy austriaco Max Schrems è stato in parte sconfitto nella causa legale contro Facebook Ireland dopo che un avvocato generale della Corte di Giustizia Europea ha espresso un parere legale che può ostacolare le class action in Europa contro le aziende social. Nel parere si legge che Schrems è libero di fare causa a Facebook Irlanda, ma non può usare un domicilio fuori dall'Austria per presentare una class action contro la compagnia nei tribunali austriaci. Chiede a Facebook di risarcire con 500 euro ognuna delle 25,000 persone che denunciano violazione della privacy.
