Journalist vs. Justice: The case of Marian Maciejewski

A polish journalist's defamation conviction was wrongly imposed and violated his freedom of expression, ruled the European Court of Human Rights.

The European Court of Human Rights issued on January 13, 2015, a judgment on criminal defamation and freedom of expression. In its decision in the case Maciejewski v. Poland, the court ruled that a journalist’s defamation conviction violated his right to freedom of expression, guaranteed under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Dr. Adam Bodnar and Dominika Bychawska-Siniarska of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights represented the journalist.
