Deepening economic inequality in the EU risks fueling populist politics, the World Bank warns in its new report. The report notes that inequality has been "mounting in many parts of the EU since 1990". Figures show that the earnings of the poorest 10 percent of Europeans fell by 7 percent in recent decades, while the earnings of the EU's wealthiest 10 percent grew by 66 percent. Manual workers lost most while 15 percent of their jobs disappeared in the last 15 years. Most of southern Europe is falling further behind the EU curve due to low productivity and low growth.
