Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva recently announced that from March onward, Bulgarian armed forces would participate in joint patrols with the Ministry of Interior. The request was made by Bulgarian Minister of Interior Veselin Vuchkov, who said there is no obstacle for the Bulgarian Army to help Border Police in their attempt to cope with the growing migration to Bulgaria. Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev said that there are legal obstacles to the direct involvement of military units in border security. According to the law, this task is performed by the Ministry of Interior.
