The president of the Venice Commission has issued a statement expressing his deep concern over the "worsening situation" in Poland. Gianni Buquicchio noted that despite pressure from his body – part of the Council of Europe – and the European Commission on the Polish government to respect the rule of law, he notes that the Polish government has now taken steps "to ensure that [Constitutional Court judges] act in accordance with the will of the current political majority."
