"Unexcused absence" is a non-profit project from the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb that examines the civic culture and political identity of young people.
The dramaturgy of the play is based on the research of political attitudes of youth and on the teacher's manual for the implementation of civic education in schools.
What does "equal opportunity" mean, if we are not all equal? How are the ideological apparatuses shaping us? What does democracy mean if everyone's voice is not worth the same? Are young people the true picture of this society? What are the consequences of having a world that was given to us by others? Who has taken away our youth and how can we take it back and adapt it to ourselves?
Equal opportunity
"Unexcused absence" opens this theme with the aim that we all ask ourselves these questions, which plague youth from a very specific regional area – one that is laden with its own history and constant ideological conflicts.
By combining a variety of different dramatic elements, "Unexcused absence" indicates a lack of social cohesion and tolerance among young people in Croatia and pays special attention to the concepts of justice and equal opportunity.
"What is the present that we are facing?" and "what will be left for us in the future?" are just some of the questions that this play opens.
