Members of the ruling party in Poland made a request to the Constitutional Tribunal to dismiss professor Malgorzata Gersdorf from the position of first president of the Supreme Court. According to the complainants, the rules under which the judge was elected to the Supreme Court are unconstitutional. Gersdorf was chosen three years ago. The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights protests against the attacks on the judiciary in Poland and stresses that this application to the Constitutional Court is revenge for Gersdorf's recent critical statements on planned judicial reforms.
