The Dutch Supreme Court decided on December 22, 2015, that arrested suspects in the Netherlands have the right for assistance from an attorney during a police interrogation. Until now, adults under suspect of a crime were only entitled to speak with an attorney prior to a police interrogation. Even though the Supreme Court rejected the right to legal assistance during interrogation in 2014, this judge states that by now, the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights have given cause to tighten these rules. They should be implemented as of March 1, 2016.
