Lawyer Zuzana Čaputová, a newcomer to politics who has run a campaign focused on tackling corruption, won the largest share of votes in Slovakia’s presidential ballot on Saturday. With 40.6 percent of the votes, she will be the front-runner in the second round ahead of European Commission Vice President Maroš Šefčovič, who gained 18.7 percent at the polls. Slovakian media reports that voters’ support for Čaputová reflects their frustration with Slovakia’s ruling Smer party, which has been the target of anti-government protests following the murder a year ago of journalist Ján Kuciak.
