Romania's Constitutional Court decided on Tuesday, September 16, that the law requiring the buyers of prepaid phone cards to be identified is unconstitutional.
The Court upheld, by majority vote, the objection of unconstitutionality raised by the ombudsman and found that the law passed by the Parliament in July 2014 is unconstitutional in its entirety.
This is the fourth attempt of the Romanian legislature to impose a law that would control and monitor electronic communications. All were declared unconstitutional.
