Hungarian Rights Defenders Must Be Protected

The government has used its latest hate-filled campaign against refugees and human rights defenders to stir voters ahead of this weekend's election.

Viktor Orbán's regime has been trying to silence human rights defenders since 2013. Last year, Hungary passed a Russian-style anti-NGO law to starve them of funding.

Now the government is turning the screw with a new law that would tax donations from abroad and bar aid workers and lawyers from helping refugees.

And in a recent campaign speech, Orbán promised "revenge" against civil society groups when the election is over.
