In a statement on Monday, February 20, the Polish government dismissed demands that it implement judiciary reforms deemed essential by the European Commission to uphold the rule of law. The country risks being stripped of its EU voting rights, but such a decision would require unanimous consent from all other member states, and this won't happen: the Hungarian government has said it would not support sanctions against Warsaw. The Commission has given the Polish government until late February to implement measures to protect the powers of the Constitutional Tribunal.
