The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union has joined an international initiative targeting the chair of the UN Human Rights Committee concerning the review of Article 17 (right to privacy) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The organizations say this article, in force since 1998, should be considered obsolete, as the steep rise in the number of people with Internet access and mobile phones has transformed the area of data protection. The signatories want a new regulation to meet the challenges of data protection in the digital age.
