Hungary and Poland must allow independent funding for NGOs under the €1 billion Norwegian aid program, which is currently up for renewal, Norway's prime minister, Erna Solberg, has said. Both countries are seeking to waiver to a requirement that all European Economic Area funds to civil society must be channelled through an administrative body that is independent of their governments. In exchange for its access to the EU single market, Norway funds initiatives aiming to reduce social and economic disparities in 15 poorer EU member states, through the so-called EEA funds.
