On average, Lithuania sees one woman killed in a family context each month; furthermore, one in nine calls to the police is a report about domestic violence. In order to more effectively tackle violence against women in Lithuania, NGOs are urging politicians to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Woman and Domestic Violence without delay. Sixteen states have already ratified the Istanbul Convention, but Lithuania is sadly not among them.
