The organizations Article 19 and the Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights have published a report on the independence of public service media in Poland. In December 2016 and again in June 2016, a provisional law on broadcasting gave the Ministry of State Treasury, and later the National Media Council, the power to appoint and dismiss senior management and boards of directors of public service media outlets in Poland. These solutions resulted in politically motivated mass redundancies in public service media. The changes led to strong criticism from international organizations.
