The flow of migrants from North Africa has not stopped. On a single day – Tuesday, March 29 – the Italian coast guard rescued 1,569 migrants. Official figures show that in the first three months of 2016, more than 16,000 people were rescued from the Mediterranean Sea between Libya and Sicily. After the closing of the Balkan route, greater numbers of migrants are attempting the perilous crossing to reach southern Italy. And the worst part is that Italy is really not ready for this.
