A 60-year-old man convicted for growing cannabis in his garden has received a pardon from Italian President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. The man had been sentenced to five months in prison and fined with 800 euros by the Court of Cassation, but his lawyer, Fabio Valcanover, did not give up on his case and he decided to submit the pardon request to the president. Mattarella, recognizing the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, has spared a sick man from spending five months in prison. Now the man is assisted by the national healthcare, which is providing him with cannabis-based medicine.
