The Supreme Court of Ireland has ruled that the country's ban on asylum seekers working violates the constitutional right to employment. The case was filed by a Burmese man who has been prevented from gaining employment for the last eight years because of his status. The court did say that the state may place legitimate restrictions on the employment of asylum seekers, but ruled that the relevant section of the current Refugee Act removes the right to work altogether.
