Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó plans to intervene at Monday’s ministerial meeting in Brussels against the alleged plans by the EU Commission to incorporate the UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) "into the Union’s legal framework". Szijjartó is concerned that the EU wants to build a case for the legally binding interpretation of the GCM, which he fears will force Hungary and eight other EU governments to open their borders to migrants. An EC spokesman said he’s unaware of such plans, and reiterated the position that the GCM is not legally binding.
