The National Public Health and Medical Officer Service of Hungary has refused HCLU's public interest data request inquiring about the number of hospital-acquired infections. In response, HCLU has turned to the courts to enforce the publication of these data. The attention to hospital-acquired infections was raised by a claim of the Facebook group 1001 Doctors Without Gratuities, which said that more people die in hospital-related infections than in car accidents in Hungary in a year. This comment made it obvious that the actual number of hospital-acquired infections is unknown in Hungary.
