Forum Menschenrechte, a network of more than 50 human rights organizations in Germany, has used the occasion of the EU summits on refugees to criticize the EU’s policy of turning refugees away. The network calls on the German government to stand up for the respect of human rights at the EU level. Any military action against facilitators of illegal migration that would violate international law should not be an option. The EU should instead focus on providing legal ways for refugees to enter its territory and to apply for asylum.
